The Narrows - Nov 29, 2008

Part on-trail and part bushwhack near Lake Sylvia in the eastern Ouachita Mountains. The reservoir at "Lake" Sylvia was formed by damming up a beautiful canyon called "The Narrows". These are photos of that canyon (and the hike).

Photos are divided by hiker (photographer) - jc, Steve and Maggie. Most of the time I mix up photos from different hikers but this place was so unique and each person had a different 'take' on it, so I decided to keep the photos in 3 separate albums.

Someday, inevitably (and hopefully), the dam will be demolished and this beautiful place will be restored. It's not on the scale of a "Glen Canyon" but for this area it is something unique and its worth restoring. In the mean time, even though part of it is underwater, most of "The Narrows" canyon remains intact and its a spectacular place.
