This sign marks the first opportunity to make this a short loop (5 miles). If the hiker turns left here, the loop is about 5 miles. We continued on straight, which added about 3 miles, making the longer loop about 8 miles total. The longer loop is a very nice, beautiful hike. The shorter (5 mile) loop is also nice, but it cuts out some of the better aspects of this trail.
