GPS used for tracks on this site...
GPS information on this site is from a Garmin 60csx handheld GPS. It is incredibly accurate compared to my previous Magellans and it's ability to pull in signals under heavy forest canopy or in canyons is amazing. Highly recommended.
I actually purchased an external antenna when I bought it and so far haven't needed it. The GPS is held in a camera pouch that is attached to my left backpack strap in front. This locates it a) high up off the ground, b) in the open, c) upright and d) easy to reach when I want to look at it. I tried it this way right after buying it and have never needed to use the external antenna.
The only thing I don't like about this GPS is that it doesn't save time information when you save a track. I can't imagine why they designed it that way but apparently its a Garmin thing. Anyway, I've been amazed at the qualilty, accuracy and performance of this GPS for hiking.
