Two Rivers Park - Little Rock
Two Rivers Park, located just west of I-430 in west Little Rock, is part of the eastern Ouachita Mountains. The park land occupies nearly flat river bottom adjacent to he Arkansas River. Unlike most other hiking destinations on this site, Two Rivers Park is a city park dedicated to multiple uses such as biking, casual walking/strolling, etc. Most of the trails are paved because they are intended to double as walking/biking trails.
Two Rivers Park is about 1000 acres of open fields, forests and wetlands all together in one place, sandwiched between the Arkansas and Maumelle rivers, just north of east-west running ridges of the Ouachita Mountains. From many places in the park Pinnacle Mountain is visible to the west.
As seen in the photo, this is a "big sky" kind of place. Sunsets can be spectacular. There is an interesting project called "Garden of Trees" at Two Rivers Park. The open fields are being transformed into walkable gardens of native trees, so some of these photos (see gallery) document what it used to look like. Eventually, the Little Rock "River Trail" is supposed to connect with Two Rivers Park and Pinnacle Mountain State Park.
