This is just west of "X" on the map, looking downstream. This is the kind of place where you don't expect to meet other hikers. Its a very isolated place and, on this dark, gray day, quite dismal and even eerie at times. Imagine my surprise when I met a guy hiking up out of here! He had "taken a wrong turn" and was working his way up this ravine to reach the ridgeline. He told me that he was 67 years old and had been hiking in here for 50 years. He also mentioned that not far from here, on another hike, he had snapped a photo of a mama bear and three cubs. We talked for a while before he continued on up the mountain. It's rare to meet other hikers off-trail out here...
